  • 11/13/10 – Jumped in a random 10K race while on vacation in Riviera Nayerit, Mexico this morning. I came down here not expecting to race but while out on a run yesterday I saw a sign for this 10K and Half Marathon which started within 1km of my resort. Not rested, but wanting to see where my fitness is at I jumped into the race. I decided that I would run the first mile hard and then sit in to see how I could do. Everything’s in kmh’s, so I couldn’t really tell what my pace was but I ran a low 5:20 for the first mile followed by a mid 5:30 before settling into 5:40′s the rest of the way home. Within the first kilometer I had a 300m lead on the rest of the field. One guy managed to catch up and pass me at about 6km but besides that it was a pretty lonely run. Managed to hold on for second in 35:07. Not bad for the end of a big week and a few days of drinking margaritas leading into the race.
  • 10/17/10 – Raced the first annual Rock n’Roll Denver Half Marathon this morning! This is my 4th year in a row running the “Denver Half” but with the change in ownership this year also brought some changes to the course, making it (I believe) slower/harder in the process. Regardless, I had been training exclusively for this race ever since the debacle that was The Pacific Grove Triathlon (more on that later) back in mid-September. I put in some great run training under the guidance of my run coach, Josh Merrick and was very happy to run my fastest time in Denver by over 2 minutes! Went 1:18:21 today, which converts to a 1:15:02 at sea-level, beating my earlier PR of 1:16:08 out in San Francisco earlier this year. I am very happy with where my running is currently headed.
  • 9/11/10 – Raced out in Pacific Grove, CA today at the Pacific Grove Triathlon. I was feeling good and fit for this race but still battling the chronic Glute/Pura Formis issues that I have had all summer. Started out in the swim not having a really good swim but able to hold on to a solid 3rd place exit from the water, a typically fast T1 and I was into first (at least in my 30-34 wave) onto the bike. Unfortunately, that is where the problems started AGAIN. Within 10 minutes into the 40K ride I was again feeling the pain of my above mentioned issues. I struggled to even finish the bike giving up over 6 minutes to the leaders, by the time I got off of the bike my race was over. I stuck out though running a mid 35min 10K off the bike for one of the top 10 run splits of the day. In the end, I walked away with a 16th place overall finish at the same race where I was 5th last year. I am very disappointed and need to now focus on getting these muscle issues taken care of.
